Giarmarco, Mullins & Horton, P.C. Announce Appointment of Albert T. Nelson, Jr. to State Board of Ethics

Gov. Rick Snyder recently announced the appointment of Albert Nelson, Jr., of Troy to the State Board of Ethics. The seven-member board serves as an advisory and investigatory committee that determines the ethical conduct of classified and unclassified state employees and public officers in the executive branch of Michigan state government. “These individuals are exceptional choices for this board,” said Snyder. “I am confident their backgrounds, skills and experiences will assist the board in maintaining the highest ethical standing across state government.”

Mr. Nelson is of counsel to Giarmarco, Mullins & Horton, P.C., and specializes in litigation and workers’ compensation. Mr. Nelson received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History and his Master of Arts degree in Public Administration from the University of Detroit. Al received his law degree from Wayne State University. Prior to practicing law, Mr. Nelson taught Social Studies at the nationally renowned Cass Technical High School in Detroit, Michigan.

Al is a fellow of the ABA College of Workers’ Compensation Lawyers, a national organization established to honor distinguished workers’ compensation attorneys, and elected to the College’s Board of Directors. He is the chair for the City of Troy’s Personnel Board; and member of Detroit Workplace Development Commission. He served as a public member to the Board of Optometry, and as Chair of the Jurisprudence and Disciplinary Sub-Committees; board member of Girl Scout Council of Southeastern Michigan; Vice Chair and First Vice President of Booker T. Washington Business Association, and a former trustee of the Detroit Historical Society, Michigan Library and Historical Center and Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Michigan.
