EXPERIENCE
Albert Taylor Nelson, Jr. is Of Counsel to Giarmarco, Mullins & Horton, P.C. His legal career has included litigation, workers’ compensation, corporate and business matters, and service as a Special Assistant Attorney General. Throughout his career, he has advised and represented individuals, businesses, and organizations, bringing a practical, strategic, and problem-solving approach to legal and business challenges.

Before entering the practice of law, Mr. Nelson taught social studies at Cass Technical High School in Detroit. That early experience contributed to the perspective and communication skills he has brought to his legal, advisory, and community work.

Mr. Nelson has an extensive history of public, civic, and professional service. He was appointed to the Michigan Board of Ethics and served on the Michigan Board of Optometry, where he chaired the Disciplinary Subcommittee. He also served on the Board of the Detroit Historical Society.

His community engagement has included service with the Detroit Workforce Development Board, City Year Detroit, Metro Girl Scouts of Southeast Michigan, and the Optimist Club of Northwest Detroit. He also previously served on the Board of Governors of the College of Workers’ Compensation Lawyers and as Secretary and a member of the Executive Committee of the American Red Cross Southeastern Michigan Blood Services.

Mr. Nelson is also an author whose writing draws upon his professional experience, personal observations, and reflections on leadership, community, personal development, and the lessons gained over a lifetime.
