John A. Anderson


Mr. Anderson is a graduate of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and received his Law degree from Michigan State University College of Law.

Mr. Anderson has wide-ranging experience as a business lawyer representing both middle-market clients and entrepreneurs. A major focus of his practice is in health care law, primarily on the provider side. He also does considerable work for banking clients, primarily handling loan work-out matters. As a partner in the Business Practice and Health Care groups at Giarmarco, Mullins & Horton, P.C., Mr. Anderson represents business and banking clients as well as health care providers ranging from large single and multi-specialty groups to small groups and individual physicians. He also represents Accountable Care Organizations, clinical labs, diagnostic providers, physical therapy providers, home health agencies and more. Mr. Anderson was formerly General Counsel and Chief Operating Officer for a large medical billing company and, in that capacity, he worked closely with physicians, group practices and other providers on business matters as well as billing & reimbursement issues. Mr. Anderson also has considerable experience working with banks in relation to complex special asset issues, forbearance agreements, receiverships, foreclosures and liquidations, as well as the civil and bankruptcy litigation related to such workout matters.

Mr. Anderson’s practice areas include all manner of business transactional and litigation matters, with an emphasis on banking and health care law and the full spectrum of health care provider issues including compliance matters, fraud & abuse, third-party audits, billing & reimbursement, entity formation, contract negotiations, physician self-referral/Stark, Anti-kickback, licensing and litigation.

Mr. Anderson is a current Member of the Ascension-Michigan Board of Trustees. Ascension-Michigan operates 15 hospitals and over 250 sites of care throughout Michigan, and is part of Ascension Health, which is the largest non-profit health system in the country with $20 billion in annual revenues. Mr. Anderson also sits on the Ascension-Michigan Quality & Safety Committee and is the former chair of that committee. Additionally, Mr. Anderson sits on the Board of Directors of the Genesys Physician-Hospital Organization, and he is a Board Member of the Genesys PHO Accountable Care Organization, which was one of the first 32 Pioneer Accountable Care Organizations in the Medicare Shared Savings Program.
