On July 30, 2020, the Michigan Court of Appeals issued its decision in Langell v McLaren, et al., 2020 WL 4382791; Dkt. No. 347274 (Mich Ct App 2020). Our client, McLaren Port Huron Hospital, was granted a directed verdict by the Trial Court (Hon. Daniel J. Kelly). The jury then returned a verdict of $3,999,000.00 against McLaren’s Co-Defendants, Physician Healthcare Network, P.C. and Michael Paul, M.D.

The Co-Defendants appealed the Trial Court’s decision to dismiss McLaren from the case, and argued that a new trial was warranted for a host of different reasons. In a thorough 8-page opinion, the Court of Appeals soundly rejected that argument and affirmed the Trial Court. Given the size of the jury’s verdict (i.e., nearly $4,000,000.00), this was a terrific win for McLaren and GMH. Congratulations, Don and Geoff!
